Alignment was sought between the policies and strategies of the Nile Basin, and there was the need to integrate climate change across this spectrum. Of critical importance was the consideration of the range of factors that are a reality in the NBI’s functionality; their mandate, their capacity, demands from Riparian States, overlap with Riparian activities, hydro-political issues prevalent in the Basin, existing national policies and strategies in riparians and implementation realities and arrangements.
OneWorld was responsible for developing the Nile Basin Climate Change Strategy, as well as conducting a technical review of the NBSF, the Wetland Strategy, the ENSAP and the Water Policy. Additionally, OneWorld conducted an institutional analysis and review of capacity and mandate of the NBI, while facilitating the NBI and Technical Committee review meetings in Uganda and Ethiopia.
It is anticipated that this project would lead to funding implementation, sought through the NBI Trust Fund.
