The demand for green hydrogen (GH2) and the associated Power-to-X products (PtX) like ammonia and synthetic aviation fuel is on the rise globally, with South Africa considered one of the future suppliers of GH2 products. The South African-German Cooperation, through GiZ, is implementing the project “H2.SA – Promoting a Green Hydrogen Economy in South Africa” to support South African public and private sector stakeholders to utilise this potential. The objective is to accelerate the development of market opportunities between the European Union (EU) as a green hydrogen consumer market, and South Africa as a producer, exporter, and consumer.

OneWorld has been contracted by the Cooperation, through GiZ, to scope the enabling opportunities for GH2 in South Africa, through carrying out a financial landscape analysis and developing knowledge building tools to capacitate South African project developer.
