The SADC Secretariat has been allocated funds from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the multi-donor Commission for International Waters in Africa (CIWA), which are administered by International Development Association (IDA) and executed by the SADC Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) to facilitate the “the Establishment of National Focal Groups in the SADC Member States” (“the project”).

The SADC-GMI contracted OneWorld to facilitate the “Establishment of the National Focal Groups in the SADC Member States” through legal policy research, development of terms of reference (ToR) for the NFGs, in-country stakeholder mobilisation, training needs assessment, training and capacity building of
the established NFGs. This report constitutes Deliverable 8 of this project’s contract. The report summarises the outcomes of the project deliverables and makes recommendations for the way forward for rolling out the NFGs in the remaining eleven Member States, and for consolidating the progress made in this project’s pilot countries of Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

We would like to thank James Sauramba (Director), Brighton Munyai (Senior Groundwater Specialist), Micah Majiwa (Project Manager) and Thokozani Dlamini (Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist) for their leadership, meeting participation and contributions on behalf of SADC GMI.
