Training

OneWorld has a proven track record in delivering projects underpinned by capacity development. We regularly develop training materials and train trainers, government officials and NGOs.

OneWorld’s business activities are generally programmatic and often include capacity building and knowledge sharing. Our capacity building work is often implemented through training programmes, which also involves process facilitation and strategic dialogue.

All our training programmes include the development of targeted, bespoke training materials or modules. We typically train either end users of the training and materials, or trainers, who are thus enabled to provide ongoing training to end users.   We always validate our training materials with the learners, and refine the final training materials for ongoing, user friendly application.

Our Approach towards Learning and Training Material Development

Our approach builds on our experience in, for example, developing learning and training materials for global and regional communities of practice, across a variety of sectors. A successful learning strategy needs to be underpinned by an adaptive management approach; continually reassessing user needs, priorities, and motivations, and adjusting the strategy to address these, based on a continually evolving understanding of learner motives, opportunities and means.

Co-creation and co-development of training materials is at the core of our approach and methodologies, driving institutional capacity building. Co-creation yields optimal results in terms of the quality of end products or activities, while also building capacity, through coaching.

Online training

Since the beginning of 2020, OneWorld has delivered many training courses and capacity-building activities via blended or fully online learning. Through our experience, we have found that it is possible to deliver training effectively online, with participants showing a high level of satisfaction with the courses. At OneWorld, we adapt each course according to the client and stakeholders’ requirements.

Some of our strategies for conducting training and capacity building online include:

Online surveys
We conduct online surveys for training and capacity needs assessments, including ‘online’ readiness assessments for participants, to ensure that the course delivery is designed to be relevant and accessible for all participants.
Video conferencing
We use multifunctional online video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. The platform is selected for each project by determining which will be most accessible for the participants.
Helpdesk
For each course, we set up a responsive helpdesk and provide mentorship for the participants tailored to specific project requirements.
Knowledge-sharing
We also create a knowledge-sharing platform for participants to share knowledge with each other – for example, through a Google Group, email list, or WhatsApp group.
Online platforms
We use of online training platforms such as Cap-Net’s Virtual Campus or Google Classroom, as a central platform for sharing course materials, when appropriate.
Training materials
We develop highly interactive, relevant training materials, which are built around actual case studies, accompanied by targeted tools, resources, and knowledge repositories; as well as quizzes at the end of modules to support revision and consolidation before moving to the following module.
Interactive Software
During interactive training sessions, we use online software for interactive workshop rooms, such as Mural, a virtual whiteboard application; Mindmeister (Mindmapping), Mentimeter (digital survey tool to gather snapshots of opinions during workshops).
Visual Tools
We also develop visual materials such as infographics, videos (e.g. with topic experts), PPTs, and other materials that are essential for making online learning accessible, lively and interesting.
Translation
Where necessary, we ensure the automatic translation of all learning materials into accessible formats such as infographics and videos.
